Cork Flooring

I have been thinking hard about what to replace the kitchen and livingroom floors with and lately I have been leaning towards cork. It sounds like the advantages are

1. Enviornmentally friendly- only the bark is harvested in the cork tree and it readily grows back in a few years to be harvested again.

2. Soundproof- quiet to walk on

3. Insulates against temperature and sound

4. Non-allergenic - it won't let mold or mildew grow on it

5. Low maintenance installation and cleaning

6. Durable - isn't easily scratched or damaged

7. It is warm on the feet and soft to walk on

That would be really cool! I don't know much about it, but it sounds so neat and the benefits are great. Does it have some cushiony-ness to it? Like an actual cork's hard sponginess? Would the dogs claws mess it up?

I'm so down with that. Can you install it at my house, too?

It sounds like the dogs claws won't mess it up, and yes.. a bit spongy like you would imagine cork to be but I think it is sealed with a protective finish. I want to go look at it in a showroom to see what it really looks and feels like.

This website calls it "highly abrasion resistent"...

Damon and I were at Home Depot the other night looking at hardwood flooring, and they had a sample of cork flooring. I think it would be a great option for you.

Can it be installed on top of concrete?

According to what I read yesterday, yes. There is an underlayment that they recommend for certain installs and I think cement was one of them.
