Farm Visitor

We had a homing pigeon land on our farm today. We put him in a pet carrier with food and water and Googled the numbers on his leg band. It turns out that he is from Springhill, FL, about 1 1/2 hours south of us. We were able to locate his owner from this website. It turns out the bird was exhausted and needed some water, food and rest before he can continue on his way home. We will release him tomorrow morning and if he won't leave the pet carrier, it means he's not ready to leave yet, and the owner said he would come and pick him up. I'll keep you posted about what happens. FYI: his band number is AU 2010 GHC 6886. He is approximately 6 months old and has flown successfully before. The owner said that the west wind has been to blame for throwing the birds off course lately and tiring them out.

"Homey" is still here with us. He hasn't wanted to fly away so I put him back in the pet carrier. We think he's sensing the stormy weather heading this way and wants to wait until its clear.
