Racing Recap

Well, both Rags To Riches and The Green Monkey got beat yesterday. Rags To Riches ran a very good second, getting beat 1/2 length by Lear's Princess. Trainer, Todd Pletcher said after the race, “I would never be discouraged with this filly,” “I still think she is the best three-year-old filly in the country. “I think she is one of the best we’ve seen in a long time. Sometimes, the best get beat.”

The Green Monkey didn't fare as well. He finished a flat third place after chasing a strong pace. He had a small rally in the stretch, basically right before he got his doors blown off.

Don't have any TV coverage of Belmont so I checked the website last evening between the Mets and the Yankees games.

Neither horse seems to have acquitted themselves well, but I think Rags will return to form, but that who ever is holding the Green Monkey may well be holding the bag, so to speak.

John is travelling today - as usual - so I am monitoring the blog - love to stick it to those stat freaks.

I thought I would gloat at The Green Monkey's defeat but I'm actually disappointed. I'm always on the lookout for the next "great one." This just goes to show, you can't buy greatness.. even for the sum of $16 million.

Good one K! Todd Pletcher said something to the effect of "no matter how well he did, even if he raced at two, it still would have been hard for him to live up to the hype." I tend to agree with that.

Newi - You said that greatness can't be bought. I was attempting to contradict you.

The only way to truly contradict my statement is to get the deal done... you can't sell something if no one is willing to buy it! (although I would go all the way to $4.95 for you at a public auction!)
