What's the Real Deal??

Rags To Riches, who has not started since becoming the first filly in 102 years to win the Belmont, has had another setback. This time a fever of 102. She had a temperature that kept her out of the Coaching Club American Oaks, then was pulled up at the start of a scheduled five-furlong workout on July 22. A thorough physical examination showed no problems. Todd Pletcher is adamant that there is nothing wrong, which appears to be confirmed by her gallops and workouts in between these weird events. I just wonder if there isn't more going on than they admit.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is the normal body temperature of a horse?

I've always been told that 100 is normal.. it's not the fevers so much that bothers me, but their timing. It also troubles me greatly that she was pulled up in a workout. Her rider thought she broke down.. then she took a few steps and was fine. She was evaluated by her track vet and given a clean bill of health, but still they shipped her to a clinic and did further workups. Once again she was given a clean bill of health. It looks like they are dotting all the i's and crossing the t's. That's what troubles me the most.

Maybe suffering from "exhaustion", like Lindsay Lohan!
