I think Street Sense was the best horse out there yesterday. I predict he will come back to win at Belmont. While watching the race, you could see the exact moment when he got distracted. Can you blame the jockey for the horse losing focus? I think so. SS did the same thing in the Derby, but it didn't matter then.
I think there could be an interesting rivalry with Street Sense and Curlin in future races. I think they could both be accused of "hanging" at some point in the stretch.
I REALLY think Hard Spun's jockey, Mario Pino, moved too soon considering the fast pace in front of him.
Mario's imaginary post-race interview:
" I thought I had enough horse under me to go the full 1 1/16. What's that? 3/16? oops."
Why would they hang in the stretch?
maybe from inexperience, or distraction from the loudly cheering crowd, but also because they both seem to need a target to run at. Once they took the lead they waited around a little bit not knowing what to do.
I love Mario's imaginary post-race interview! He had the horse nicely bottled up behind two tiring front end horses. He should have stayed put for a little bit longer.
