Corporate Sponsorship

In reference to my last post:

I went back to the article that I read about the Barbaro documentary to check my facts and noticed something that really aggravates me. The Kentucky Derby has obviously changed it's name to The Kentucky Derby Presented by YUM! Brands (G1). Every time Barbaro's name is mentioned in print, he is referred to as the winner of The Kentucky Derby Presented by YUM! Brands (G1).

It also carries over to this new crop of three year olds who are on the Derby trail. Now you can't say this 3 year old is on the Derby trail anymore. You have to say the horse is on the Derby Presented by YUM! Brands trail. How much did YUM! Brands pay to ruin the crown jewel of the Triple Crown?

That is totally lame. First jockeys becoming billboards and now this. Such a lame sponsor too. I can kind of understand the "Budweiser Longshot" and the "Visa Triple Crown Challenge" but to actually rename the Kentucky Derby is stupid. Pretty soon someone will sponsor the singing of "My Old Kentucky Home" and those lyrics will be rewritten... perhaps "My Old Southern Comfort Home?"

Who ever heard of YUM! Brands anyway?

Hah! Funny, Kara! I couldn't agree more. You will really notice it when it gets closer to the Derby and you read a lot of the articles. I think Churchill Downs really sold out when they let a sponsor be that invasive.
PS I think YUM! Brands owns KFC, Taco Bell and some other snack foods like Fritos or something.

This corporate sponsorship insanity really makes me mad. Nothing is sacred anymore. How many times did they change the name of the Boston Garden? Can anyone even keep up with it anymore. Manchester has the Verizon Wireless Arena. Pretty soon they'll be looking to rename Fenway Park.

Our new ballpark in San Diego is Petco Park! Try that on for size.

What DO they call Boston Garden now? Isn't it The Fleet Center?

I believe, and I could be wrong, that the Boston Garden was completely torn down and rebuilt to be the Fleet Center. I don't know if it is still called that anymore.
