Alabama English and A Quiz

There are four people I know that share some very unique qualities:

1. they all work on horse farms
2. they are all black men
3. they were all born and raised in the Southeastern United States
4. they are all great at what they do
5. they are all dear friends of mine
6. they are all fluent in Alabama English

Alabama English is an easy to learn variation on regular English. You, too, can be fluent in under one day. All you have to do is change "tr" to "cr." Let me give you some examples...

"I need to get the oil changed in my cruck, but first I have to jump on the cractor and harrow the racecrack because we have a crainer coming to visit the farm this week. The crainer will be coming scraight here from the airport. I also need to bring my rockweiller to the vet for his shots. "

See how easy it is to learn Alabama English? Now for the quiz part:
I am going to let you guess the last names of these four guys. The number of dashes is the number of letters in their last names and there is a clue beside each of them. It's a very easy quiz that 97% of first graders can guess the answers to in less than 10 guesses. There are no points or prizes awarded. Play only for your own personal enrichment. Good luck.

1. Gus - - - - (a color)
2. Gene - - - - (a Gillette razor brand)
3. Henry - - - - - - ( a Texas city)
4. James - - - - - - - - (a city in Ohio starting with "H")

Ready, Set, Go!!

I'd also like to add an additional rule of Alabama English which is to change "shr" to "scr," as in the word "scrimp." In this example, "scrimp" means "shrimp."

Yes on Henry Dallas, no on Gene Sensor.

Good one on scrimp!

Ding Ding Ding!!! Kara gets all four answers! Here's your promised trivia:
Gus Gray- had a book written about him titled "They Call Me Gus". I found two copies on Amazon.com. The author is Helen E. Wright.

Gene Edge - celabrates his birthday on March, 9, the day after mine, and once washed my truck when I left it at the farm he works at!

Henry Dallas - left the dinner table to come pull out my white truck that got stuck in the paddock. He is my 2007 partner on Raven.

James Hamilton - I gave him MahMah's first baby, Billy. Billy is now the breeding goat at his farm.

Here's another thing they all have in common...they all have porn star sounding names. Why is Gus so special that someone wrote a book about him??

Nora said...

To answer Mel, I guess they wrote the book about Gus because he is an interesting guy, who has had some unique life experiences, particularly when he worked for Hooper Farm and brought up some great Florida horses. (Hoop Jr. Derby winner, Susan's Girl, Crozier, Copelan, and Tri Jet to name a few)
